Suture PGA - 1/2 circle, reverse cutting - 1/2RC36
PGA is a coated, braided, absorbable synthetic suture made from polyglycolic acid (PGA). The thread is coated with polycaprolactone and calcium stearate.
Properties
- Excellent tensile strength throughout the critical wound healing phase
- Very secure knot
- Excellent manageability
- Predictable absorption profile
- Indications
PGA is indicated for use in general approximation or ligation of soft tissues, for example in ophthalmic surgery. Not suitable for cardiovascular or neurological interventions.
Contraindications
Due to the rapid onset of loss of tensile strength, the use of this thread is contraindicated if tissue under tension is to be approximated for longer periods of time or if seam support of more than seven days is required. PGA is not suitable for cardiovascular or neurological interventions.
Tensile strenght
Tests with subcutaneous tissue implants in rats have shown that PGA sutures still have around 65% of their original tensile strength two weeks after the procedure.
Absorption
The absorption is initially noticeable as a loss of tensile strength without a pronounced loss of mass being detectable. The PGA suture is almost completely absorbed within 60-90 days.
