Spool Suture Silk
Spool Suture Silk Black Multifil Metric 1,5 USP 4-0
Silk is a braided, non-absorbable sterile suture material for surgical applications, which consists of the organic protein fibroin. This protein is produced by the domesticated species Bombyx mori (B. mori) from the Bombycidae family.
Properties:
Gentle tissue penetration with maximum knot security
Indications:
The silk material is indicated for the general approximation or ligation of soft tissue parts, for example in cardiovascular, neurological or ophthalmological operations.
Contraindications:
This material is contraindicated in people with a known sensitivity or allergy to silk. Because of the gradual loss of tensile strength in vivo, the use of silk surgical sutures should be avoided if this loss is undesirable.
Unwanted reactions:
The undesirable reactions to this medical device include: dehiscence of the wound, a gradual loss of tensile strength, allergic reactions in people with a known silk allergy, stone formation in the urinary and biliary tract after prolonged contact with salty solutions such as urine or bile, wound infection, acute inflammatory reactions and temporary local irritation.
Absorption:
The silk threads are not absorbed; however, progressive hydrolysis of the protein-containing silk fibers can occur in vivo, which leads to a gradual loss of tensile strength.
