Spool Suture PDO

PDO is a sterile, absorbable monofilament synthetic thread made of polydioxanone for surgical applications. It is made from the polyester poly (p-dioxanone). Properties: Long holding power Excellent manageability, extreme flexibility, good knot security No wicking: The migration of bacteria along the seam is inhibited FDA approved D&C Violet # 2 for better visibility during the procedure Indications: The absorbable monofilament synthetic thread made of polydioxanone is indicated for approximation or ligation of soft tissue parts, even in pediatric cardiovascular and ophthalmological interventions. The material is not indicated for cardiovascular tissue of adult patients, in microsurgery and for nerve tissue. The threads are particularly useful in areas where on the one hand the use of absorbable material, but on the other hand particularly long wound support is desired. Contraindications: Due to its absorbability, the material must not be used if tissue parts under tension are to be approximated over longer periods of time (more than six weeks). Furthermore, it must not be used in conjunction with prosthetic products such as heart valves or synthetic transplants. The material is not indicated for cardiovascular tissue in adult patients, in microsurgery and for nerve tissue. Tensile strenght: Tests with subcutaneous tissue implants in rats have shown that PDO threads still have approx. 75% of their original tensile strength two weeks after the operation, 66% after four weeks and 53% after six weeks. Absorption: The absorption is initially noticeable as a loss of tensile strength without a pronounced loss of mass being detectable. The material is only minimally absorbed up to the 90th postoperative day. After six months, the absorption process is almost complete (180-220 days).
